Frequently asked questions

What is Courier?

Courier is a notification platform that connects to your existing email, SMS, push, and chat providers and sends through all of them from a single API. You integrate each provider once, then design, route, and monitor every notification in one place.

Do I keep my own provider accounts?

Yes. Courier is bring-your-own-provider, so you connect your own accounts like SendGrid, Twilio, and Firebase and keep your existing pricing and sender reputation. Courier sends on your behalf rather than reselling you another vendor's volume.

Which channels and providers can I connect?

Courier supports email, SMS, push, chat, and in-app notifications across providers including SendGrid, Amazon SES, Postmark, Twilio, Vonage, Firebase FCM, APNs, Slack, and Microsoft Teams. You can also connect customer data platforms like Segment, observability tools like Datadog, and single sign-on through Okta.

Can I use more than one provider for the same channel?

Yes. You can add multiple providers to a channel and set routing rules so Courier automatically fails over to a backup provider if your primary one is unavailable, with no change to your send code.

How do I switch providers?

Because your send logic lives in Courier, switching providers is a configuration change instead of a code change. Add the new provider, update your routing, and your notifications start sending through it with no redeploy of your app.

How do I add an integration?

Add your provider credentials in the Courier dashboard and start sending. There is no separate SDK to install per provider, because every channel goes through Courier's single API.
